BROOKHURST PRE-SCHOOL ‘Stepping-Stones’

NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2019

Hello we hope you all had an enjoyable summer and we welcome our new children and families.

During each session the children play freely and are invited to do many activities. Some of the work they do will be for group displays, some to be kept for their Learning Journals and some to be taken home.

You are more than welcome to arrange to speak to your child’s Key Person or any staff member at any time.

In January 2020 you will be invited to a parents evening.

A list of staff and Key Children is in the cloakroom

Treasures

We encourage children not to bring a treasure as we have limited space for storage and these have in the past been broken or lost.  We understand that some children may have a special toy for a limited time to help them settle.

We sometimes may ask for children to bring something in connected to our focus.

Curriculum

A notice is displayed in the cloakroom showing the focuses for each half term, together with activities and their links to the Early Years Foundation Stage. These can be viewed on the notice board in the cloakroom and on our web site.

The children have been enjoying our focus ‘Elmer the Elephant’ looking at colours and emotions and enjoying various Elmer stories.

Our other focusses for this term include ‘Family and Friends’, ‘Walking through the Jungle’ and ‘Percy the Park Keeper and Night Time Animals’.

Brookhurst Preschool  Committee

Our group is run by parents. We hold half termly meetings (usually no longer than 1 ½ hours) We do need more members, if you are interested please speak to Kerry or Carol for more information

Birthday invitations
Just a polite note, that Brookhurst Preschool cannot be responsible for giving out children’s birthday invitation or gifts. If you wish to give any out please could you ensure you help your child before or after the session.
Staff photographs and details are displayed on the notice board.

Volunteers
We occasionally have students and volunteers who the children may talk about from time to time.
We are happy to say that Pauline will once again be helping out on Friday mornings.

Lunch Boxes
Children staying for lunch; could you please place the lunch boxes in the new trolley in the cloakroom.  The cloakroom can get very warm so we recommend if possible placing a small icepack in their lunch box.
Drinks need to be stored within the named lunch box or in a named bottle.
The children seem to have settled well into the lunchtime routine. We will return all uneaten food and packaging so you can monitor how much your child needs.
We do encourage the children as much as possible to eat their healthy options first.

Shoes
We encourage the children to change their own shoes and pumps.  Please can you help by providing shoes that they can manage to put on independently, we still continue to support them.
Children Attending Afternoon Sessions
Please could we ask if you could change your child’s shoes into their pumps before they enter the session.  The children can then bring their pump bag into the playroom ready for registration, we will help them change back into their shoes at the end of the day.

Coats
Please can you make sure a coat is left each day to enable them to play outside which is named

Clothing
Please ensure your children have clothing that aids independence with their toileting.

Illness
If your child has been sick, had diarrhoea or has a temperature please can we ask that they be kept at home for 48 hours to ensure that any bugs are not being passed on.

Medication
If you give your child any medication before bringing them into preschool please could you inform us e.g. Calpol, Inhaler, etc.
